Synopsis: Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo, and the hilarious penguins in "Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR." This musical, based on the DreamWorks animated motion picture, follows the friends as they escape New York’s Central Park Zoo and embark on an unexpected journey to Madagascar. Expect an adventure full of comedy, music, and excitement.
In just 6 days, students will transform a show from the first read to a full-scale production! Throughout the week, participants will:
Learn songs
Rehearse dance choreography
Memorise scripts
Work with a vocal coach
Explore character development
The workshop aims to help students build confidence, forge new friendships, and have a fun, enriching experience. The Riverside Conference Centre offers various breakout spaces to accommodate different age groups and skill levels, ensuring an optimal learning environment.

Solo Singing & Acting: ALEX, MARTY, MELMAN, GLORIA, THE ZOOKEEPERS, THE LEMURS (including KING JULIEN), SERVERS, THE PENGUINS
Ensemble Singing & Acting: MASON, THE FOOSA
Audition Requirements:
Song: A 1-minute audition cut of any Disney, DreamWorks, or contemporary song. You may sing a song from the show if preferred. Select a section that showcases your vocal and acting abilities. A verse and chorus or the last minute of the song are usually effective.
Script: Prepare an audition side (short script) from the provided link. Memorisation is preferred. For characters without specific sides, choose any favourite script. Multiple auditions are allowed.

Recording Guidelines:
Introduce yourself at the beginning of the video.
Combine introduction, song, and script into one video if possible, although separate videos are acceptable.
Have someone off-camera read other characters’ lines.
Face the camera front-on and deliver lines looking at the reader, not directly into the lens.
Character Breakdown
Alex: Main attraction at Central Park Zoo, "The King of New York City." Fun-loving, devoted to steak and friends. Requires singing and acting. Vocal range: A3 - Eb5.
Marty: A zebra with dreams beyond the zoo. Sweet disposition. Requires singing and acting. Vocal range: A3 - D5.
Gloria: A bold, maternal hippo. Requires singing and acting. Vocal range: Eb4 - E5.
Melman: Kind-hearted, hypochondriac giraffe. Requires singing and comedic acting. Vocal range: E3 - Db5.
The Penguins: Skipper (captain), Kowalski (second-in-command), Rico (brute), and Private (cute and fuzzy). Requires acting.
The Zookeepers: Introduce zoo attractions. Zookeeper Zelda requires singing and acting. Zookeeper Zeke and Zoe require acting. Vocal range (Zelda): B3 - G4.
Mason: Intelligent chimpanzee. Requires acting.
The Lemurs: Native to Madagascar, avoiding Foosa. King Julien (comedic leader) requires singing, acting, movement. Maurice (assistant) requires acting. Mort (sweet performer). Lynn, Lew, Lee, Lars (bold personalities). Vocal range (Julien): A3 - B4.
The Foosa: Cat-like predators. Leader is the biggest and baddest. Requires acting.
Servers: Imagined servers in Alex’s dream. Requires dancing and singing. Vocal range: D4 - D5.
The Lionesses: Alex’s background singers and dancers.
Featured Ensemble Roles: Cameraman, Candy Hammernose, New Yorkers, Old Lady, Police Officers, Animal Control Officers, Newspaper Man, Ship's Captain.
