Title: The Case of the Butterfly in the Jar
Presented By: Mimi Ruiz, Brisbane Anywhere Festival
Genre: Immersive Theatre
Synopsis: The Case of the Butterfly in the Jar is an immersive theatre experience set in an empty house, exploring the ethics of murder investigations and their relationship with how different cultures view death and mortality. When a young person is found dead under mysterious circumstances, their sibling, a detective, becomes obsessed with investigating the death. Meanwhile, the family prepares to grieve according to their cultural customs, warning the detective that they will not be able to move on as long as the investigation continues. As the audience moves through various rooms of the house, they interact with the detective, family members, ancestors, and the deceased person, who cannot move on due to the ongoing investigation. Ultimately, the detective must learn to let go, and the audience discovers that letting go is less about knowledge and more about wisdom.
