THEATRE: Popcorn - Ipswich Little Theatre

26 Feb 2025

Season: February 26th - March 15th, 2025

Title: Popcorn

Presented By: Ipswich Little Theatre

Genre: Dark Comedy, Satire

Synopsis: Set in late 1990s Hollywood, Popcorn follows Bruce Delamitri, an egotistical filmmaker thriving off the controversy surrounding his latest film, Ordinary Americans—a tale of a hillbilly couple mass murdering people. The movie sparks outrage when a real-life copycat couple, Wayne and Scout, mirror the film’s violent actions. After a night at the Oscars, Bruce returns home with a Playboy model, Brooke Daniels, only to be taken hostage by Wayne and Scout, who demand Bruce publicly claim responsibility for their actions. What ensues is a chaotic exploration of art, responsibility, and societal violence. Ben Elton’s satirical dark comedy takes a sharp jab at Hollywood’s glorification of violence, delivering offbeat humour, outlandish characters, and thought-provoking questions.
